Scholar Spotlight: Simone Hernandez

Meet 🤝 Simone Hernandez, PracticePro Diversity Scholar – Cornell Law School,Class of 2023.

Amanda Jones

Question: What inspired you to pursue a legal career?

Simone: I am emboldened by my identity as an African American woman, by my heritage as a descendant of slaves, and by a global community of student activists who refuse to tacitly consent to the status quo. My experience as a Student Advocate was rewarding because I realized there is power in my voice, as witnessed by the countless students who were given a second chance simply because I had the courage to speak out against injustice. Through the powerful tool of a legal education, my voice will be further amplified as I defend due process and fair resolutions in the legal field.

Question: Where are you working this summer?

Simone: Perkins Coie.

Question: What's your favorite book or quote, and why?

Simone: "Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth." by Henry David Thoreau. I first read Walden in high school and reread it during the pandemic. This quote has helped me to embrace the unknown and reminds me to return to gratitude even in the midst of changing seasons.
