Scholar Spotlight: Dan Ankenman
Meet 🤝 Dan Ankenman, PracticePro Diversity Scholar – Brigham Young University School of Law, Class of 2023.
Question: Do you have any work experience before law school?
Dan: I worked as a musician and recording engineer throughout college and am deeply passionate about music's power to unite and uplift people.
Question: What inspired you to pursue a legal career?
Dan: I have been keenly aware of the impact of legal rights since I was young because I had to advocate for accommodations for myself and help others to understand their importance.
This has engendered in me a greater sensitivity to the rights and needs of others, so I want to use my legal education to empower others with knowledge about their rights and an understanding of how to effectively advocate for themselves.
Question: Where are you working this summer and what practice area(s) are you currently interested in?
Dan: I’m excited to extern at the Utah Supreme Court this summer. I’m currently intrigued by copyright law, employment law, disability rights law, and civil rights law.
Question: What do you do for fun? Tell us one fun or interesting non-law school related thing about yourself.
Dan: I speak Norwegian and lived in Norway for two years working as a volunteer for my church.
Question: What's your favorite book or quote, and why?
Dan: "Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved." I love this quote by Thomas S. Monson because it reminds me that everything I do should be focused on serving and strengthening others.
Question: What's next on your bucket list?
Dan: I want to work on recording an album over the summer.
Question: Is there anything else that you would like for us to share about you?
Dan: I'm very grateful for PracticePro!!
