Let's Talk About Your Diet

While Thanksgiving is a day for gratitude and family, it’s also the day where we all tend to overeat and fall into a food coma. Unfortunately, this is also the time of year where the law school and law firm cycle gets a bit hectic. After Thanksgiving, it’s important to get back into a healthy routine to keep your energy levels and immune system strong. We’ve come up with the following post-Thanksgiving tips:

1. Make sure to keep healthy snacks with you at all times:

If you’re eating unhealthy all the time, you’ll tend to feel much more sluggish and exhausted. However, trying to diet constantly can be really taxing on the body as well. Focus on cutting out unhealthy snacks by carrying around veggies, nuts or fruits. Having the occasional healthy snack will help you cut down on hangry moments and keep your energy levels up.

2. Carry a water bottle with you:

In the legal profession, we can have days where we sit behind a computer screen all day long or we’re constantly running to a meeting or to court. It’s difficult to remember to drink water let alone eat when we’re that busy. Keeping a water bottle on you might be a hassle, but it’ll serve as a great reminder to keep hydrated. Staying hydrated will help maintain normal body function and avoid fatigue.

3. Don’t let traveling derail you:

Whether you’re flying somewhere to take a deposition or visiting your family for the holidays, travel always gets in the way. If you meal prep and pack some healthy foods when you travel, you’ll be able to avoid the sub-par airport food and you’ll stay on track with a healthy diet.

4. Get a friend to join you as you keep track of your diet:

It’ll take time to find the right approach to maintaining your diet and your busy schedule. But having a friend do this with you could be the key to staying on track. Planning meals and exercise with a friend helps take the stress off of you and makes you feel like you’re not in it alone. It might also help to choose a fitness goal like running a 5k with a friend to keep you both goal oriented and on track.
